Harsányiné Vajay Alexandra
Head of Laboratory

I was born in 1992 in Kaposvár. I completed my primary school education at the József Attila Primary School in Dombóvár, where my biology teacher, Aranka Gergely, had such a strong influence on me that after my first biology lesson, I told my parents I wanted to become a biologist. I continued my secondary education at the Illyés Gyula High School, Vocational School, and Boarding School in Dombóvár, where I had another excellent biology teacher, Rita Juhász, who further strengthened my passion for the subject.
Due to my father’s influence, I initially planned to study medicine after primary school, but just before graduation, I returned to my childhood decision and applied to the University of Pécs, Faculty of Science, for the Biology BSc program. After the second year of my studies, I was accepted into the experimental specialization, and in 2017, I graduated. My thesis focused on characterizing the effects of tea tree essential oil and its main terpenoid components on microorganisms.
From a young adult age, I knew I wanted to pursue a helping profession within biology. In 2017, I was accepted into the Kaáli Institute in Kaposvár, where I became part of the team helping infertile couples. For me, this was not just a job; I found my calling. Before being accepted to the Kaáli Institute, I had applied to the MSc program in Clinical Laboratory Research at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pécs. However, after my acceptance, I had to defer my studies for one year. During this time, I had the opportunity to attend an international conference organized by the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) in Barcelona in 2018. In September of that year, I began my MSc studies, but after completing the first two semesters, I took another break in 2019 when my twin boys were born. I resumed my studies and eventually graduated with my MSc degree in February 2021. My thesis topic was the study of the effects of light exposure on CD1 mouse embryos and their culture media.
In 2022, I returned to the clinic, and on March 1, 2024, I was appointed as the head of the laboratory.
I am a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), the Hungarian Society of Assisted Reproduction (MART), and the Hungarian Society of Embryologists (MET). My long-term plans include completing a Doctoral Program and obtaining the internationally recognized embryologist certification organized by ESHRE, so that I can use my growing knowledge to further help couples struggling with infertility.
